30 DAYS OF MEAST

day 10- songs you listen to when you are happy, sad, bored, hyped, mad

There is one song for all really, and that’s the above. Bobby Hebb’s Sunny is one of my fav tracks of all time because it reminds me that no matter how bad things may be you can always take solace in the fact other people are there for you and they can get better.

It’s also really inspiring that despite everything that was going on for him at the time Hebb managed to put out something so inspirational: here’s the background

There are loads of happy songs but if I could nail it down to one it’d probably be this [NSFW] ‘cause Spank Rock is awesome.

Sad? Um this, this or this

Bored would be this to give me motivation or this ‘cause it’s awesome

Hyped is this (best rap ever) or this

Mad? Definitely this, 0:43 - 1:25 kicks ass or this

day 9- something you’re proud of in the past few days

I’m immensely proud of Phoebe for everything she has achieved and done this week. Every day is another step forward and I can see the progress!

day 8- short term goals for this month and why

1. Find a flat, because this is my 5th week in Auckland and I still don’t have one.

2. Find a job, because my savings are dwindling a little bit more every week.

3. Make the most out of every day at my internship and try and learn as much as I can so that I can be a better qualified journalist at the end of it.

day 7- a picture of someone/something that has the biggest impact on you
There are a couple of people who could qualify for this post and they know who they are so I’m not gonna write about them.
Instead, this.
I had an A3 version of this on my wall as a teenager because it was the first photo I remember seeing that shocked me - more would come, but I just couldn’t get over the thought that this guy saw suicide as a better alternative to staying in the towers and potentially burning to death.
Then as I got into journalism I found out about the ethical debate around it and whether it should have been run and it took on a new meaning.

day 6- favorite superhero and why

I was gonna write this morning but left it to think about for a bit. Superhero? Bit ambiguous isn’t it? I mean my first thought was Optimus Prime. But he’s not a superhero right, he was made that way. So then my next one is Iron Man. But Tony Stark made that suit. Essentially he is no more a superhero than Optimus Prime. What about Spiderman? But he was bitten by an arachnid which was made radioactive by a scientist. Batman? See Iron Man. Superman! Surely he’s a superhero! But his powers were completely normal on his planet, it’s only on Earth that they seem extraordinary. One of the Fantastic Four? But it was man’s desire to travel to space that created them. John Constantine? He’s not a superhero he’s just a crazy guy who can see demons. This is quite difficult.

So stuff it. I’m going to say Iron Man. He’s got many problems - he’s an alcoholic, he’s a womaniser, he has abandonment issues. He doesn’t always make the right decisions but he always stands by his actions and doesn’t pass the buck.

OH AND HE HAS A ROBOT SUIT.

day 5- a picture of somewhere you’ve been to

Well I’ve been all over New Zealand except to East Cape and the Coromandel, but I’ve only gone overseas once. That was to Melbourne just over a year ago. I went with my mate Dave and we spent the first three days watching V8 Supercars. Melbourne is so huge, it blew my mind when we flew in over the coast where it begins and it still took 10 minutes flying time before we touched down at the airport on the other side of the city.

day 4- a habit that you wish you didn’t have

There are two actually. Biting my nails, which I’m working on. The second is doubting my abilities - such as writing - and expecting people to tell me I’m shit

day 3- a picture of you and your friends

Hmm. Day 1 already covered that. Um. I’m not really into the whole “lets go here and do stuff but take photos of us doing it” so three will have to tide you over.

day 2- the meaning behind your blog name

This is just a throwaway Tumb1r so it’s not my normal one. Meast is a sports term, used to describe someone half man, half beast.

Examples: Chris Johnson. Mike Tyson. Shaq.

Pretty sure that’s the most recent pic of me.
1. I’m not as fat as I look.
2. I like dinosaurs and robots, but not in the http://dinosaursfuckingrobots.com/ way.
3. I’ve always liked giving speeches.
4. Until I was 16 I was going to become a pilot, I had even begun lessons.
5. I drink coffee sometimes but I don’t like the taste of it.
6. I left school in my 7th form year then went back 6 months later when I realised I’d end up going nowhere.
7. I have an email saved from John Campbell encouraging me to be a journalist that I still look at sometimes.
8. I have no fashion sense.
9. When I was seven my school did the ‘take an egg home and treat it like a baby’ experiment. I took it a bit literally and tried to fashion clothes out of some rags. I broke the egg on the first day and cried for hours and hid it from my mum.
10. I’ve never gotten my learner license.
11. I don’t like Facebook, I only use it to share things with friends who aren’t so internet-savvy or are slack at keeping in touch.
12. I’m not an early adopter at all.
13. (kinda pertaining to 12) I didn’t listen to Justice for 6 months, because I didn’t believe the hype.
14. I get stuck on games until I finish them.
15. Charlie is the first guy I’ve gotten on with IRL for an extended period of time.
